Abstract:The main technical challenges present with large diameter rock socket drilling are analysed. The technical status quo of three conventional large diameter rock socket drilling methods, e.g. cone bit/disc cutter drilling method, percussive drilling method (no circulation and reverse circulation) and air/fluid powered DTH drilling method, is described with concrete proposals initiated for increasing the technical level of large diameter rock socket drilling.

Abstract:The explicit Lagrangian method is a new numerical analytical method different from the implicit difference method. The basic principle of the method is briefly described. The FLAC software developed on the basis of the method was used in the anchoring project of Lianzi Cliff dangerous rock mass for comparison of the conditions of the hazard cliff before and after the treatment. It is concluded with the summation of the experience gained from the use of the FLAC software.
